Samsung and Corning get together to develop Samsung’s foldable glass
Nowadays, Samsung’s newer generation foldable smartphones as Galaxy Z Flip and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 made with its own developed Ultra-Thin Glass technology.
Now, Samsung planning to develop its foldable glass technology with collaboration with Corning.
Samsung wants to develop the key materials of its foldable devices because Samsung’s position is at the forefront of the foldable smartphone segment. It is reported that the company is developing foldable glass using Corning’s substrate. Presently, Samsung display’s Ultra-Thin Glass panels are made using German firm Schott’s glass substrate.

Corning’s spokesperson told ETNews that it is currently supplying bendable glass substrate to a firm, but they can’t ask the name of the firm. Even, Samsung’s smartphone division is reportedly looking to develop its own made foldable glass and force Samsung Display to lower the price of its panels.

Currently, Samsung Display supplies UTG to only Samsung Electronics, but it is expected that the company diversify its client list and reduce the dependence on Samsung Electronics. Huawei recently placed orders to Samsung Display for its future foldable segments.
