Snapdragon 885 could observe Samsung’s 5nm process and Snapdragon 895 switch to TSMC 4nm

There’s no doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S21 series could become the first to launch with Snapdragon 875 SoC across the world. Qualcomm confirmed that it will be officially launched on December 1, 2020. The upcoming chipset by Qualcomm will use Samsung 5nm LPE process technology including one ARM Cortex-X1 core, three Cortex-A78 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores.

Snapdragon 875’s Cortex-A78 cores will be clocked at 2.42Ghz and Cortex-A55 cores will offer clock speeds of up to 1.8Ghz. Its Cortex-X1 core will have a maximum frequency of 2.84Ghz.

Furthermore, Snapdragon 875’s GPU is upgraded to Adreno 660. In addition, the upcoming SoC will use Qualcomm Secure Processing Unit (SPU250), Spectra 580 image-processing engine, and Snapdragon Sensors Core Technology. The Snapdragon 875 carries external 802.11ax, 2×2 MIMO, and Bluetooth Milan for connectivity.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 885

In technical terms, we can expect that Qualcomm has already started working on the next-gen flagship chip that could be Snapdragon 885 that will arrive later next year. While no one knows the specs of the so-called Snapdragon 885, but it will continue to use Samsung’s 5nm process and may be an improved version of the 5nm LPP process.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 895

Just like the Snapdragon 855 and 865 incident, Qualcomm is likely to switch back to TSMC’s foundry on this generation of chips for its future coming Snapdragon 895 in 2022. Qualcomm may use TSMC’s 4nm process for this chip that will have a great impact on performance and power consumption.
