Opinion: Samsung moving towards a new era of foldable smartphones
As the size of smartphones is nowadays increasing, the phone makers are also looking for new and innovative technologies that can offer a large screen with a pocket-friendly size. This was made possible with the new foldable display technology that became the base for all flexible or foldable devices.
Samsung also contributed to these new fold designs with its Galaxy Fold range of smartphones. The company revealed its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold in February 2019. The device offered a large foldable display of 7.3-inch that can be used as both a smartphone and a tablet.
With the help of a hinge, the smartphone can be opened like a notebook and also converted into a tablet. It also has a secondary display of 4.6-inch at the front that can be used while the phone is folded. The Korean firm then made several new changes with its second generation, Galaxy Z Fold 2. This smartphone was unveiled with a bigger and powerful display than its predecessor and also it brought many design changes.
Besides the bigger display, Samsung also introduced its first clamshell design foldable phone, Galaxy Z Flip. The device looks similar to the normal smartphones but it can be folded in half, making it smaller and easy to carry.
Samsung’s new inventions for the next generation foldable phablets
The Korean tech giant is now looking towards further expanding its fold range with more innovative features. The company is planning for a more futuristic and advanced form of foldable devices. One such design has been leaked which shows a new Z-shaped flexible phone that Samsung may consider in the upcoming generation.
With the Z-shaped design, the smartphone will be capable of folding from two sides forming a ‘Z’ with the help of not one but two hinges. For this, the company will use a different kind of flexible display. These phones are even said to feature the Under Display Camera (UDC) technology through which the camera lens will be embedded inside the display and will only be visible when the camera is in use.
Also, it is said that the Korean firm is planning to dissolve its Note line up and make the foldable smartphones as priority devices by providing S-Pen feature with them. Adding the S-Pen functionality will make these flexible phones more productive and will increase their value. These are some exciting changes if came into existence then, as a tech enthusiast, I will be eagerly waiting for these new phablets from Samsung.
What do I expect from the next-gen foldable phones?
Just now we have discussed the considerable changes that Samsung could make in its upcoming flexible devices. If these designs go into production then it would be a bold move in the technological world offered by the South Korean tech giant. Samsung has its own display capabilities and I can surely expect such new changes as the company is unpredictable in the field of displays.
With the upcoming foldable devices, Samsung will enter a new era of technology and will completely change the definition of smartphones. As per my opinion, the Korean firm is fully capable in the field of displays, and we’ll see more new innovations in the upcoming Galaxy Fold generations.
Other than the flagship lineup, if Samsung introduces foldable phones in the budget range, then it’ll surely be a big win for consumers and the company will be able to sell more devices.
It will also build a new base for its competitors. So, what do you think, will the next foldable phone be a success for Samsung or will it be a mess? Let us know your precious opinions on this matter in the comments below.
