Samsung Galaxy A52 and A72 will get three generations of Android and four years of security updates
Back in August 2020, Samsung held a ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event to launch the Galaxy Note 20 series. At the same time, the company revealed the revised Android OS upgrade policy that confirms three generations of Android update support for every Samsung flagship launched with Android 9 Pie or later.
Apart from the premium Galaxies, the Korean tech giant also listed some Galaxy A series smartphones including the Galaxy A51, Galaxy A71, and Galaxy A90 that are eligible to get three major Android update support. Furthermore, Samsung also stated that select upcoming mid-range handsets will also be listed in the revised Android update guarantee.
On March 17, 2021, the company has officially unveiled three new mid-range smartphones – Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G, and Galaxy A72 that are the successors of the Galaxy A51, and Galaxy A71 models that were launched back in March 2020.
As Samsung promised last year, the recently announced Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72 are compatible to get three generations of Android upgrade support. Starting with Android 12-based One UI 4.0, these devices will receive major updates up to Android 14-based One UI 6.0.
“Samsung always aims to provide Galaxy users with an up–to–date mobile OS, and this is now expanded to the A-series. The Galaxy A52, A52 5G, and A72 will support software upgrades for three generations, and regular security updates for a minimum of four years” – Samsung.
On the other hand, Samsung also announced that it will deliver at least four years of regular security updates to the Galaxy devices launched since 2019. However, the Galaxy A52, A52 5G, and A72 will be compatible to get new security patches until March 2025. It is worth noting that the company will only provide two new security updates in the extended fourth year.
