Samsung led the global smartphone market in February 2021: Counterpoint

Recently, reports revealed that Samsung is on the way to reclaim the top spot in terms of global smartphone shipment in the first quarter of this year. Now, a famous market analysis company has published the data of global smartphone sales of February 2021, which also shows positive signs for the Korean tech giant.

On March 29, 2021, research firm Counterpoint released the latest February 2021 global smartphone share report.  According to the data, the shipments of the top seven phone-manufacturer and market share with the month-on-month growth recorded by the smartphone vendors.

Talking about Samsung, the company holds 20% of the total market share and recorded a 17% month-on-month growth. Meanwhile, the previous report suggests that Samsung shipped 24 million phones, achieving a 23.1% of market share during the same period.

Aside from this, Apple slipped on second with security 17% of market share with a 20% growth month-on-month. Followed by Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei, and Honor.

Xiaomi secured the third spot with a 13% market share with 1% month-on-month growth while Oppo and Vivo obtained 12% and 10% of market share with 3% and 2% month-on-month increase respectively.

Furthermore, the US banned Huawei only captured 4% of the market share while its month-on-month increase is 18%. And its former sub-brand Honor gets 2% of the total market share with 8% MoM growth.

“Since Huawei was banned, the growth of Xiaomi and OPPO has been on the rise, but Samsung seems to have reacted and curbed further growth of its rivals through this year’s product launch plan,” said Counterpoint Research analyst Kang Kyung-soo.
