Samsung Galaxy Quantum 2 is official with 6.7-inch sAMOLED display, Snapdragon 855+
After weeks of leaks and rumors, Samsung and SK Telecom have officially announced the Galaxy Quantum 2 in South Korea. This is the carrier’s second smartphone that is equipped with quantum cryptography technology.
The company will officially launch the Galaxy Quantum 2 on April 23, while the pre-order will begin from now to April 19, 2021. Moreover, this handset could launch as a rebadged Galaxy A82 outside South Korea.
The Galaxy Quantum 2 comes with a bigger 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with Full HD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling, alongside an under-screen fingerprint sensor.
In terms of photography, the Galaxy Quantum 2 features a triple rear camera setup that consists of a 64-megapixel primary camera with OIS, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.
Under the hood, Samsung installed the powerful Snapdragon 855+ processor that is supported by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The company will ship the Galaxy Quantum 2 with Android 11-based One UI 3.x out of the box.
Just like its predecessor the Galaxy A Quantum, the Galaxy Quantum 2 also features the world’s smallest quantum random number generator (QRNG) chipset measuring 2.5mm by 2.5mm developed by ID Quantique.
This QRNG chipset allows smartphone users to use services that require security in a more safe and secure manner by generating unpredictable and patternless true random numbers.
Furthermore, the Galaxy Quantum 2 is likely to provide a differentiated security experience to customers by dramatically expanding the number of services that can be applied with quantum cryptography. However, the Android Keystore (APIs) based services will be automatically secured by QRNG.
For example, SKT’s T World, PASS, and T Membership services, as well as mobile banking services of Shinhan Bank and Standard Chartered Bank Korea will be provided securely by using quantum cryptography technology.
Han Myung-jin, Vice President and Head of Marketing Group of SKT said:
“With the Galaxy Quantum2, we have successfully expanded the application of quantum security technologies to a wider variety of services including financial and security services. Our efforts will continue to keep expanding services that are safely and securely provided via the Galaxy Quantum2.”
