Samsung to retain the top spot from Intel in semiconductor market this year: Gartner
Gartner, which is a market research organization, recently published a report that shows the global semiconductor industry’s revenue in 2020 will increase by 10.4% year-on-year to reach $466.2 billion.
In the latest data shared by Gartner, Intel is the leading brand in the global semiconductor market with revenue of $72.76 billion last year. The company’s semiconductor revenue grew 7.4%, driven by the growth of its core client and server CPU businesses.
On the other hand, Samsung’s semiconductor ranked second with a revenue of $57.73 billion. Moreover, the researcher believes that the Korean tech giant has a good chance of retaining the top spot in the semiconductor market from Intel in 2021.. Followed by SK Hynix and Micron ranked third and fourth respectively.
Andrew Norwood, Research Vice-President at Gartner said:
“In 2021 both NAND flash and DRAM will be in shortage, sending pricing higher though the year and revenues rocketing by around 25%.”
“This sets memory-focused Samsung up with a good chance of recapturing the top spot in the semiconductor market from Intel in 2021.”
Last year, the revenue of Qualcomm was $17.63 billion, surpassing Broadcom’s $15.75 billion to rank fifth. Meanwhile, Texas Instruments ranked seventh.
MediaTek in Taiwan, China, benefited from the large shipments of 5G chips. Last year’s revenue reached 10.99 billion U.S. dollars, ranking from 13th to 8th. In addition, Nvidia and Kioxia ranked ninth and tenth respectively.
