Google Files APK teardown reveals ‘Recycle Bin’ could be finally added with Android 12

Currently, the Android 11 is the latest stable mobile operating system, which brings major system improvements and a number of new features such as chat bubbles, notification history, better 5G connectivity, enhanced privacy controls, one-time permission to the apps, and much more.

Aside from these features, Google has restricted the way apps can access file storage in Android 11. Expect for the native file manager, other applications including third-party apps can only access specific storage through specific APIs.

Meanwhile, there’s a MediaStore API that gives access to common media files including audio, video, and images. Apps using the MediaStore API can keep the removed files by the user instead of permanently delete them.

This functionality lets users restore the files stored in recycle bin within a specific time when needed. However, Google has not introduced a global file recycle bin for Android.

Meanwhile, our folks over at XDADevelopers found a code in the Google Files’ APK teardown in Android 12, which indicates Google is all set to add a global file recycle bin for Android users.

And the users can completely access this functionality like manage to recycle bin and empty it. However, this function is currently unavailable, only a pop-up window can be displayed for demonstration.

So far, Google seeded two Developer Preview of Android 12 and the third build is likely to arrive anytime. On the other hand, the company could release the final stable version of the Andriod 12 somewhere in September this year.
