Recently, Samsung Electronics published the second edition of Virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN) whitepaper, which highlights the benefits and components of its vRAN. The company also cited how it can help maximize efficiencies in operators’ operation and management, network deployment, eventually reducing the total cost of ownership.

For your better information, the South Korean tech giant introduced its fully virtualized 5G RAN (vRAN) back in July 2020 while it has made an announcement of the successful commercialization of its 5G vRAN for a Tier One U.S. operator and earlier this year.

Samsung vRAN is hardware-agonistic where the baseband functions are decoupled from the underlying hardware and can operate over a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) server. With its cloud-native and container-based architecture, Samsung enables vRAN operators to independently allocate resources and automatically expand their components based on network traffic patterns.

Operators can also add new features and easily introduce next-generation technologies. Another advantage of the cloud-native architecture is its automation capabilities, which greatly simplify end-to-end network management. With Samsung VRAN, operators can quickly meet the growing demand for new and existing services with little impact on deployment.

Samsung took the lead in successfully delivering 5G end-to-end solutions including chipsets, radios, and cores. Through continuous research and development, the company relies on its market-leading product portfolio to drive the industry to promote the development of 5G networks through fully virtualized RAN and the core of private network solutions and AI-driven automation tools. Samsung is currently providing network solutions for mobile operators to provide connections for millions of users worldwide.
