Recently, Samsung Display published a new report that shows its OLED panels can lower the power consumption by 25% when its dark mode is on. However, the company supplied its OLEDs to Samsung Electronics for its Galaxy Book Pro series laptops.

According to the South Korean display maker, the batteries of the Galaxy Book Pro lasted 11 hours on dark mode, based on measurement made with Mobile Mark 2108 Scenario. At the same time, the batteries lasted 9.9 hours when the laptops used in normal/day/white mode.

When in dark mode, the on-pixel ratio will decrease, which allows the Galaxy Book Pro laptops to use limited power thanks to OLED’s black being expressed by turning the pixels off, unlike LCDs (liquid crystal displays) that have their backlighting turned on even when expressing black, said Samsung Display.

It’s worth mentioning that other OEMs such as Apple, Microsoft, Google, and Adobe also offer dark mode in their products and services. Moving ahead, Samsung Display is planning to launch over 10 kinds of OLED panels for notebooks, ranging from 13.3-inches to 16-inches in size.

As environmental issues have recently emerged as a social issue, consumers are aiming for wise consumption considering the environment. Samsung Display is also striving to produce environmentally friendly products in line with this.
