WhatsApp will soon enable ‘End-To-End Encrypted Backups’ for better privacy

WhatsApp started releasing a new beta update through Google Play Store, which bears build version 2.21.10.9. As always, this new version also comes with an additional feature that is related to the chat backups.

Recently, WhatsApp features tracker WABetaInfo disclosed that the popular messaging app preparing to bring more security to the chat backup function with a new feature called End-To-End Encrypted Backups.

After using end-to-end encryption, the backup of the chats will be protected by a private password in order to prevent unauthorized access to them on Google Drive. It’s worth mentioning that WhatsApp already allows users to use end-to-end encrypted chats.

For better understanding, the source brought us a screenshot of the user interface of this functionality. According to the image, WhatsApp added a status, which indicates the backup is encrypted using end-to-end encryption or not.

Do note that WhatsApp is currently bringing the end-to-end backup feature to select Android beta testers as it is under development. If the history is any indication, this function will be available with future updates soon.
