New Samsung and Ericsson agreement ends all ongoing patent related legal disputes
Recently, Ericsson published a statement on its official website citing that it has reached a multi-year global patent license agreement with Samsung, which includes all patents related to cellular technology. Besides, the cross-licensing agreement covers network infrastructure and mobile phone sales starting January 1, 2021.
Ericsson revealed that both OEMs have signed an agreement on multiple technical cooperation projects, which will promote the development of open standardization in the mobile industry and create valuable solutions for consumers and enterprises.
As result, the settlement ended the two companies’ investigation requests to the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) and ongoing litigation in multiple countries and confirmed the value of the two companies’ strong patent portfolios. However, the details of the agreement are confidential and will not be disclosed.
Christina Petersson, Chief Intellectual Property Officer at Ericsson said:
“We are delighted to sign a mutually beneficial agreement with Samsung. This important deal confirms the value of our patent portfolio and further illustrates Ericsson’s commitment to FRAND principles.”
The FRAND system provides an opportunity to use the technology and intellectual property developed by “inventors” such as Ericsson, and at the same time rewards its large amount of early R&D investment in each generation of mobile communication products.
