Starting this year, Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 lineup which contains Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra. During the Galaxy Unpacked event, the company announced that it has partnered with numerous automobile makers to deliver a digital key experience with the new Galaxy S21 series smartphones.

Aside from this, Google has recently introduced the next version of its mobile operating system, Android 12 at the Google I/O. During the event, Google announced that it will provide the car key function later this year, which is already available for Apple iPhone users from last year.

According to Google (via TheVerge), the Android 12 OS comes with a new “car key” feature, which can turn select Pixel and Samsung Galaxy smartphones into car keys. However, Google is not only working slow to update the car key function for mobile phones, but the progress of automakers on this function is also very slow.

At the I/O, Google mentioned one car manufacturer that cooperates with it- BMW, which announced its cooperation with Samsung earlier this year. As per the previous reports, BMW may not be the only car manufacturer interested in the potential of UWB as Hyundai and Kia are also members of the UWB Alliance.

Though, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy S21+, and S21 Ultra support UWB functionality which is needed for the “car key” feature. On the other hand, the Galaxy S21 users will be able to unlock the eligible vehicle by tapping an NFC receiver on the door’s handle of the car.

Samsung made a clear statement at the Galaxy S21 launch event that it is collaborating with Audi, BMW, Ford, and Genesis to enable the Galaxy S21 lineup users to unlock the door of the car via their smartphone by just approach a compatible vehicle.
