Samsung hopes millions of Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 sales this year

No doubt, Samsung is preparing to introduce its next generation of foldable smartphones in the near future. It is said that this year’s there will two different folding phones including the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. However, the company has already confirmed that it will not ship the new Note range this year.

In a recent development, a new report came to light from South Korea that revealed Samsung has set a new foldable phone shipment target of up to 7 million units this year. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which could support S Pen input, is expected to sell around 3 million units.

According to TheElec sources, the South Korean tech giant has set a shipment target of 6 to 7 million new foldable phones for the upcoming foldable phones, which will be released in the second half of the year. To be noted, shipments of Samsung’s foldable phones were 2.4 to 2.8 times of 2.5 million units last year.

Furthermore, Samsung is expected to ship 2.5 million to 3 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and 3.5 million to 4 million units of the Z Flip 3. Among the two models, the success of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to be important as the usability of foldable phones can be expanded with S Pen support.

An industry official said, “Samsung Electronics has set shipments of foldable phones to more than 6 million units in its business plan, but its realistic target is 3 million units.”

The report further suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will go under mass production starting next month. Surprisingly, the Fold 3 uses Samsung’s UPC (Under Panel Camera) in which the front camera hole is not visible on the internal screen when it not in use.

Besides, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 features a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin film transistor (TFT) that supports low power, and the external screen uses a low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) TFT. The panels of these handsets are produced at Samsung Display’s Asan A3 and A4 plants.

As per the previous reports, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 comes with 7.7 inches internal screen and 5.4 inches external screen. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be equipped with a 6.8-inch internal screen and a 1.9-inch external secondary screen.
