Samsung developing more eco-friendly OLEDs for phones, laptops and smart TVs

Just recently, Samsung Display has registered two more trademark applications for ‘Eco OLED’ and ‘Eco² OLED’ with EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) and UKIPO (United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office) that are related to OLED screens.

The trademark is classified as category 9 and is described as follows: “OLED display panel; smartphone display; television display panels; flexible flat panel displays for computers; tablet monitors; notebook display; display for communication apparatus.”

However, its description is quite identical to the previously filed “Round Diamond Pixels” trademark by Samsung. Meanwhile, it is still unclear whether this is the same type of OLED screen or not, plus the representation of the name “Eco²” remains a mystery.

Aside from this, the South Korean tech giant has also registered a similar logo in which the E part of Eco is made of a green leaf, which suggests this product will be extremely environmentally friendly.

As we know that OLED displays have been rated environmentally friendly because they use relatively less energy, require fewer components, and generate less carbon dioxide emissions. And there’s a possibility that Samsung has further optimized the production process to produce it in a more eco-friendly way.
