DxOMark test shows OLEDs more likely to cause eye fatigue than LCDs
Recently, DxOMark released its new research article about the reasons for the flickering of popular science smartphone displays and whether it will damage eyesight or not. The report also suggests that OLED screens are more likely to cause eye fatigue than LCDs.
According to DxOMark, flicker refers to the continuous on and off of the screen and the human eye’s iris expands and contracts according to the brightness change. This automatic physiological response explains why our eyes feel tired after watching the screen for a long time as the eyes are always in high-intensity work.
However, the OLED and LCD screen’s light source power supply method determines that these two technologies will have flicker effects. Usually, the flicker effect of OLED panels is more obvious than the LCD displays.
DxOMark pointed out that the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) frequency range of OLED screens is 50 to 500Hz and the frequency of LCD is higher than 1000Hz, while the human eye is only sensitive to flicker at 250Hz, so OLED displays are more likely to cause eye fatigue than LCDs.
Aside from this, DxOMark has also revealed the test results of the refresh rate and PWM frequency of smartphones from various brands. Among them, Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G that supports 60Hz refresh rate OLED panels has a PWM frequency as low as 241Hz, which is very easy to cause eye fatigue.
On the other hand, the PWM frequency of the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro mobile phone with a 144Hz refresh rate LCD panel is as high as 2360Hz, which is much higher than the human eye’s sensitivity to flicker. If you want to read the full research, you can check it out by clicking here.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim Rumor Reveals Shocking Camera Upgrades
Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim could be equipped with new camera sensors. The company is allegedly working on a slimmer model of the Galaxy S25 series. It is expected to be announced alongside the Galaxy S25 series event next year.
In a recent development, a rumor allegedly revealed Galaxy S25 Slim camera specifications. The smartphone could feature an upcoming ISOCELL camera with a 200-megapixel resolution along with a newer Telephoto lens.
The S25 Slim could feature a 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP5 sensor as the primary camera. In addition, the company may use two 50-megapixel ISOCELL JN5 sensors as an ultrawide camera and a Telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom.
ISOCELL HP5 in an unannounced image sensor that could feature a 200-megapixel resolution. The addition of a 3.5x Telephoto will be a notable upgrade as recent flagships come with a 3x optical zoom camera of 10-megapixel resolution.
The company has recently announced ALoP camera technology. Sensors made using ALoP occupy less space and width on smartphone camera modules. It is expected that the S25 Slim could be the first model to be equipped with an ALoP camera.
Samsung reportedly wants to drop the S25 Slim along with the S25 series. The phone’s specs and design will likely be finalized this month. It would compete with Apple’s iPhone 17 Air which will replace the Plus variant next year.
Samsung has not yet revealed its plans for the Galaxy S25 Slim. The device could debut in the second quarter of the next year. The camera specs may be changed/altered throughout the development and testing period.

Samsung to launch affordable Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE next year
Samsung could launch the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE next year. The company is reportedly working on an affordable foldable phone. The aim is to introduce the product in the second half of the next year for a broader audience.
The affordable Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE will make Samsung’s foldable accessible to even more people. The company hasn’t yet confirmed its work on the cheaper foldable device, but industry sources claim it’s indeed in development.
Insider Ross revealed the possibility of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE foldable’s launch in 2025. It would be labeled as the Fan Edition of the Z Flip 7. The source also shared a sneak peek of the display and camera specifications of the Flip FE.
Those hoping for a Z Flip 7 FE should be excited. It looks like a Samsung FE clamshell is finally coming in 2025.

The Galaxy Z Flip (7) FE would get inner and outer screens equivalent to the Z Flip 7. The company could manage to cut overall costs by using slightly different camera sensors and processors than the next-gen foldable phones.
The display will likely be the same as the Flip 7, but the camera and processor could be different…
— Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) November 19, 2024
Recently, it was rumored that the affordable Flip phone could use Exynos 2400. It is a decent chipset powering the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus. There are no performance or overheating issues reported with the S24’s Exynos chip.
The best part: despite entering the affordable segment, Samsung’s decision to equip Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE with a flagship chip is worth welcoming. The processor is packed with Generative AI capabilities, potentially bringing Galaxy AI perks.
Samsung could also launch a Special Edition of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 next year. We hope the official confirmation arrives alongside the Z Fold 7. It should also cross the Koren and Chinese boundaries to be accessible globally.
