Samsung Galaxy Five Year Security Updates [Device List]

On June 29, 2021, Samsung revealed its new security updates plan for Galaxy devices in which select enterprise models will now get five years of security and maintenance updates from their first global release date.

Surprisingly, the Korean tech giant expanded the security update support for only enterprise devices. However, we’re expecting the same treatment for consumer variants as well, which could be announced in near future.

Samsung Five Year Security Updates Eligible Device List

  1. Samsung Galaxy S21 5G
  2. Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G
  3. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G
  4. Samsung Galaxy S20
  5. Samsung Galaxy S20+
  6. Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G
  7. Samsung Galaxy Note 20
  8. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G
  9. Samsung Galaxy XCover 5
  10. Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 3

Aside from these devices, all the consumer and enterprise Galaxy phones & tablets (launched since 2019) are compatible with four years of regular security patches. The company rolls out new security updates on a monthly, quarterly, and biannual basis as per the device’s eligibility.

Samsung Android OS Upgrade Policy

Last August, Samsung disclosed its new Android OS upgrade policy for Galaxy devices. Starting flagship devices launched since 2019 will be eligible for three major Android OS updates. At the same time, the company has also picked some expensive Galaxy A phones for the same treatment.

Four Android upgrades for flagships, next?

As the company is regularly boosting its software development and rollout mechanism, we can surely expect as well as demand at least four generations of Android OS upgrades for select high-profile Galaxy devices such as the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, and upcoming flagships.
