What’s left for Samsung if Google Pixel 6 will get five years of software updates?
Recently, a new rumor appeared online that reveals Google will offer five years of software updates support for its upcoming Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro flagships. If the rumor is correct, then it’s going to be a big threat for Samsung in terms of software updates.
At the moment, Samsung’s latest software update policy ensures three major Android OS upgrades to all the flagship Galaxy phones and tablets. At the same time, the company provides at least four years of security updates since the device’s official release.

However, Google is going to not deliver five Android upgrades, but it could offer three platform updates, just like Samsung, and two additional years of security updates support. Do note that the Korean tech giant managing an impressive software updates game, and leading OEMs internationally.
Does Samsung need to promise four Android upgrades?
Currently, Samsung is well-known as the best every after-sales service provider among all other OEMs as its devices get every type of software update support faster. Still, the company needs to revise its Android OS upgrade policy to compete with Apple and Google.
It’s worth mentioning that all of the Apple iPhones are eligible for at least 5 years of regular software update support, which makes them the greatest deal for consumers thinking to not change their smartphone for a long time.
If the Korean tech giant commits to at least four Android upgrades, then it will be a major turning point in the industry in terms of software support. However, select mid-range Galaxy devices feature three major upgrades, Samsung should bring four Android OS support to premium Galaxies such as Galaxy S21 series.
