Europe: Xiaomi finally kicked out Samsung from top spot in Q2 2021 smartphone market

After India, Samsung has started facing tough competition in yet another smartphone market i.e. Europe. Recently, Strategy Analytics published its latest report on the smartphone market of Europe, which shows Xiaomi kicked out Samsung for the first time during the second quarter (Q2 2021).

Xiaomi x Samsung Q2 2021: Europe

According to the report, by defeating all other OEMs, Xiaomi becomes the leading smartphone maker of the European smartphone market during April-June 2021 period. The company shipped the highest 12.7 million units with a 25.3% market share and an excellent 67.1% YoY growth.

Samsung’s no longer leader of Europe!

Samsung, on the other hand, the traditional market leader of Europe slipped to the second spot in Q2 2021 due to the rising popularity of Xiaomi. The Korean tech giant shipped 12 million Galaxies and recorded 24% of the total market share. At the same time, the company’s year-on-year growth decreased by 7%.

Other than Xiaomi and Samsung, Apple secured third place with 9.6 million iPhone shipments, 19.2% market share, and 15.7% year-on-year growth during the same period. However, Apple is expected to launch its new iPhone lineup in September that will help to gain the market share worldwide.

Aside from this, Oppo landed in 4th position with 2.8 million smartphone shipments, 5.6% market share, and remarkable 180% YoY growth. Realme, in the last place on the top 5 vendors list as the company sold 1.9 million units, grabbed a 3.8% market share and had an excellent 1800% year-on-year growth.

Not Apple, Xiaomi is the biggest Samsung rival

Ben Stanton, Research Manager at Canalys said that “Xiaomi is growing its overseas business rapidly”. The company has impressively increased its shipments in various regions worldwide, which is not good news for Samsung and Apple.

Global smartphone market Q2 2021 – Highlights

In Q2 2021, the world’s smartphone shipments increased 12% as the new normal for economies and citizens started to take shape just because of the speedy rollout of the Covid-19 vaccines. A glimpse at the global market report:

  • Samsung was the largest vendor with a 19% share of smartphones shipped
  • Surpassing Apple, Xiaomi took second place for the first time ever, with a 17% share
  • Apple slipped to third with a 14% share
  • Chinese vendors such as Oppo and Vivo recorded strong growth
