Samsung Group leader Lee Jae-yong was sent to jail on bribery charges a few months ago. However, it has been speculated that he may be pardoned by the South Korean president someday in August. Now, it is reported that Lee has been granted parole, which means he will soon be released from prison.

Lee Jae-yong is reported to be released from the Seoul Detention Center at 10 am on Friday (August 13). Though, his freedom could be temporary as he fought two other criminal cases. He was allegedly involved in accounting fraud and other charges during the merger of Cheil Industries with Samsung C&T. He faces charges related to the use of anesthetic propofol without a prescription.

If Lee receives a prison sentence in any of these two cases, his parole will be canceled. However, the law is being reviewed in South Korea, and that could prevent the cancellation of his parole. Under the next review, amnesty will only be canceled if the person commits a crime after receiving the amnesty.

The controversy over the possible pardon of the Deputy Vice-Chairman arrested by Samsung was strongly opposed. Various American firms, high-ranking Buddhist monks in South Korea, and South Korean communities of all ages have demanded that Lee be pardoned and released from prison. However, some civil society groups and leaders’ unions have argued that Lee should not be released from prison.
