Back in 2020, Samsung filed a patent for a Galaxy device with a mobile camera sensor, which revealed the company seems to implement a new type of camera system in smartphones to gain more photography possibilities and good image quality.

Last October, the Electro-Mechanics unit of Samsung submitted a utility patent on “Camera module and a portable electronic device” to the USPTO (the United States Patent and Trademark Office). Moving on, the patent was released on August 5 and later on entered WIPO to protect the patented technology worldwide

As per the patent document, credits LetsGoDigital, a Samsung Galaxy camera with a movable structure, which includes the implementation of a triple camera on the back of the device in which a wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, and a telephoto lens are used.

According to the patent, the wide-angle lens is placed in the middle, and the ultra-wide-angle and telephoto lenses are placed on the left and right sides of the main camera, at the same time, each lens has a different angle of view (FoV).

The three cameras are placed next to each other by default. In addition, the user can move the middle lens down (via the touch screen), while the other two cameras will move to both sides to form a triangle during the shooting situation.

As always, it’s just a patent application that may or may not become reality in the future. Well, if Samsung wants to apply this technology in the future, it will undoubtedly take some time to see the final result, because it is a brand new patent of Samsung Electromechanical.
