Recently, Samsung announced its new wearable processor called Exynos W920. And obviously, this chipset will make its market debut by powering the upcoming Galaxy Watch models – Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.

The Exynos W920 features an LTE modem built on Samsung’s advanced 5-nanometer (nm) extreme ultra-violet (EUV) process node to offer powerful yet efficient performance with the next-generation-generation wearables.

Here’s what Samsung said –
“With the Exynos W920, future wearables will be able to run applications with visually appealing user interfaces and more responsive user experiences while keeping you connected on the go with fast LTE.”

Exynos W920 Specs

Samsung’s 5nm process-based Exynos W920 is equipped with two Arm Cortex-A55 cores for high-performing yet power-efficient processing and an Arm Mali-G68 GPU that boasts improved CPU performance around 20-percent and is ten times better graphics performance than its predecessor.

In addition, the Exynos W920 offers faster application launches and a more interactive, eye-catching 3D graphical user interface (GUI) on a device’s qHD (960×540) display with upgraded cores and improved performance.

Moreover, the Exynos W920 comes in the smallest package to date for wearables with Fan-Out Panel Level Packaging (FO-PLP) even with the latest features and enhancements. Though the compact size of the processor lets smartwatches house larger batteries.

The technology incorporates the Exynos W920, power management IC (PMIC), LPDDR4, and embedded multimedia card (eMMC) in the same package using System-in-Package-embedded Package on Package (SiP-ePoP) configuration.

Less power consumption under AOD

Instead of powering the main CPU, Samsung Exynos W920 activates the Cortex-M55, a dedicated low-power display processor, to reduce display power consumption under AOD mode compared to its previous Exynos model i.e. the Exynos 9910.

The Exynos W920 is embedded with a 4G LTE Cat.4 modem and a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) L1 for tracking speed and distance and elevation during outdoor activities for seamless connected experiences on the go.
