Samsung has officially unfolded its new lineup of foldable smartphones – Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. Along with the high-end hardware capabilities, these devices sport the most up-to-date software system from the brand and Android 11 pre-installed.

Revised back in August 2021, the Korean brand’s software policy ensures three generations of major Android OS upgrades to flagship devices launched in or after 2019 or Android 9 pre-installed. As the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is an expensive smartphone, it has also joined the list of devices that are eligible for three OS updates.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 ships the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 out of the box. It means, the Android 12 will come as its first major update later this year, followed by Android 13 and Android 14. However, the company could also expand its update policy to 4 generations of android upgrades for flagships.

Security updates

Next month, Samsung will release its new security update rollout plan and eligibility for every Galaxy device. It’s expected that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 will be included in the bulletin for getting regular security updates on a monthly basis.

Earlier this year, the company announced that all the Galaxy devices launched since 2019 will get regular security updates for four years. Therefore, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is likely to get two years of monthly, while 2 years quarterly and biannual updates.
