Google Assistant settings add splitting Voice Match and other options by device type

Last year, Google modified assistant preferences by switching to a single integrated list showing all the features in alphabetical order. The latest step to simplify Google Assistant settings includes separating Voice Match and other options by device type.

Opening “Voice Match” now reveals two tabs. “This phone” lets you enable/disable “Hey Google,” and re-learn the hot word. “Other devices” allow you to turn on/off Voice Match per device.

Assistant speakers and Smart Displays are grouped together at the bottom of your home – where there is a setting to enable auto-detection on upcoming devices, while the Chromecast and Android TV boxes are listed directly.

Additionally, users can add multiple devices, “Teach your assistant your voice again,” or “Remove Voice Match from eligible devices” below. There is also “learning more” and the ability to invite family members.

For starters, Google offers “simplifying your home help settings” with a bulk-enabled Voice and Face Match tutorial. In the meantime, the “Personal Results” menu has also received this update. That page has recently been renamed “Customization.”

Here, phone settings (Lock Screen, On headphones, and At A Glance) surpass the many options available on smart home devices. And you can simultaneously disable this setting for everything in your home.

Previously, this split with the upcoming “Quick Phrases” that will allow other commands to run without the word “Hey Google”. Quick phrases will allow you to perform a variety of tasks without having to say the hot word “Hey Google”. [ Read more ]
