Google Translate for Android testing its first major Material You design

Google Translate has one of the most useful Google apps, allowing you to translate text, bilingual conversations, web pages, and more into many languages. While the app continued to discover new tricks like allowing you to write a real-time speech, it didn’t see many UI updates in the long run.

Recently, Google Translate 6.21 was released and contains a new Task called “NewTranslateActivity” which, when launched, comes with a completely new UI for the app.

There is still work in progress at this point as when this function is launched directly, many things do not work, including the “camera” button, the “more” button, the star button at the top left, and the account button at the top right. But this still gives us a glimpse into the new design that Google is working on regardless.

As you can see in the screenshots below, the new UI clearly emphasizes the use of one hand, with camera buttons, mic, and language switches all now appearing at the bottom for easy access.

The new UI also removes the hamburger menu currently offering access to Phrasebook, saved documents, offline translation, and settings. It appears that these options will remain under the “More” tab located in the lower-left corner.

The folks over at 9to5Google people have shared additional screens in the development process that you are rebuilding Google Translate. New screenshots show what the conversation and instant camera translation look like.

The most notable changes in the current design of these two features are the large buttons and blister-shaped blisters that inherit their color in the system.

This feature shows a new language key, which is stored most of the time in the reset header. The new text translation page has been redirected since we last saw it on Google Translate 6.21, with the card at the bottom of some translations and FAB for other translations.
