Google will soon add permanent desktop mode toggle to Chrome for Android
To view desktop versions of websites in Chrome for Android, you should now tap the three-dot menu icon in the top right corner and enable “Desktop site” flexibility in the menu.
While this is an adequate solution for most people, it can be annoying for those who want to view the desktop version only. Thankfully, Google is now working on adding a new toggle that will allow users to view desktop versions of websites automatically.

A recent commitment to Chromium Gerrit reveals that Google will soon be adding a permanent desktop mode toggle to Chrome for Android. Commitment, entitled [DesktopSite] Launch the Global Desktop Application Request flag, add a new flag called “Global setting for a desktop application on Android” and the definition of ‘option’ in site settings’ for persistently requesting the desktop version of websites. ”
Another patch has been uploaded to Gerrit and this one doesn't have the "Demo" title 😉:
[DesktopSite] Add flag for Request Desktop Site Global Setting
Add Finch Feature Flag REQUEST_DESKTOP_SITE_GLOBAL;
Add Chrome flag request-desktop-site-global.https://t.co/z8qPJtmDGT— Leopeva64 (@Leopeva64) September 14, 2021
Tipster Leopeva64, who often enters new versions of Chrome and Edge to get new features, recently saw this code change. However, this is not the first time we have heard of this new feature. Leopeva64 spotted another patch with the same feature a few weeks ago but had a “Demo” on the title. This led us to believe that Google did not intend to integrate it.
The new episode adds the same feature, but is not marked as “Demo,” so we expect to see it in Canary builds for Chrome for Android soon. It is noteworthy that the new flag mentioned above is already available in Chrome Canary, but a new option in the ‘Site Settings’ section has not been added yet.
Note that Chrome already defaults in desktop versions of websites on Android tablets with large displays (10 inches or more). This change was released by Chrome 91 earlier this year.
