Google Photos for Android app also gets Material You support on Android 12

Just recently, the Google app getting a new Material You. With the official release of Android 12 not too far away, Google has worked hard to update its operating systems according to the Material You design guidelines.

Google Workspace applications such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive, and Meet have received significant updates recently, while applications such as Google Keep and YouTube Music will soon receive a new overlay. Now the Google Photos for Android app also gets Material You support.

The latest version of Google Photos introduces a new design in line with the Material You design guidelines. With the new update, the search bar on the Search tab now has a tablet status while the navigation bar below is longer.

The current tab is highlighted using the blue-green, while the large, round and round button replaces the floating button-shaped “Shared Album” button. Finally, the Favorites, Utilities, Archive, and Trash buttons on the Library tab are greatly rounded.

So far, the app has not added support for the Material You Background theme although we think this may change soon. The flexible engine, codenamed money, is a big part of Android 12.

It provides a rich color palette depending on the colors extracted from your wallpaper and works those colors in various parts of the UI program and any supported applications.

Other Google applications updated with Material You design language include Google Chrome, Google Phone, Google Calculator, and Google Clock.

The Material You support for the Google Photos app seems to be released with version 5.59. The update has not been widely released in the Google Play Store yet, but if you are interested in viewing the new design, you can download the APK from APKMirror.
