Apple reportedly working on two foldables, launching in 2023?

Recently, a report of Business Korea emerged online suggesting that the industry insiders believe that the biggest Samsung rival, Apple is reportedly working on two foldable screen smartphones that could be introduced sometime in 2023.

According to the report, Apple’s rumored foldable-screen phones may have a left and right opening type, and the other a top and bottom opening type just like the Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip models.

Aside from this, it’s said that Apple and LG Display jointly developing a foldable OLED panel with etching technology to reduce the thickness of the in-folding display panel. However, the screen may have a 7.5-inch panel, and Apple’s foldable mobile phone may be the first to use this new tech.

As per the market research data shared by DSCC, Samsung accounted for 87% of the folding screen mobile phone market last year. On the other hand, phone makers such as Huawei and Xiaomi are also releasing new folding screen products.

Moreover, industry insiders pointed out that Apple will not be able to lead the foldable smartphone market for a period of time. Though Samsung’s market share is unlikely to be less than 75% even after the release of Apple’s first foldable smartphone.

Counterpoint research data shows that the growth rate of foldable phones in the global smartphone market has been increasing. It is expected that the market size will reach 90 million units in 2023 and 100 million units in 2025.
