Google app on Android adds new preference to control ‘Personal results’

Google continues to add more settings to the Android Search app with new likes to control “Personal results.” These “Personal results,” complete with a bright icon, follow “Hide explicit results” earlier this month.

It opens a web page in the queue where “You can choose whether Search will show you personalized results based on the information in your Google Account.” These include:

  • Autocomplete predictions from your Search history, so you can pick up where you left off
  • Personal answers based on info in your Google Account, like “my flights” from Gmail or “directions home” from Maps
  • Recommendations for you based on activity in your Google Account, like Discover stories, “what to watch,” or “where to eat”.

When these results appear in Search – they are usually very high before the web listing – Google makes it clear that they are private and only visible to you. On the web, it is available under search settings. The company now makes it easier to enable/disable mobile. That said, Google’s main menu preferences are getting longer with each addition.
