Samsung’s 10-inch OLED display exceeded 10 million units for the first time

In the first half of this year, the shipment of more than 10-inch OLEDs (optical light-emitting diodes) exceeded 10 million units for the first time. This is due to strong sales of IT products such as OLED tablets and OLED TVs. Samsung Display transforms a solid A2 OLED line in Asan, South Chungcheong Province.

According to market research firm UBI Research, the OLED exports of IT (tablet, laptop, monitor) and OLED TV reached 10.29 million units in the first half of this year. It is the first time it has exceeded 10 million units. This is the result of the calculation of 10 inch or large OLED panels used on TVs, monitors, laptops, and tablets.

OLED sales of IT and TV in the first quarter were $ 2.95 billion (about $ 3.4 trillion won), 2.4 times more than $ 1.221 billion (about $ 1.4 trillion won) in the same period last year.

In the first half of the year, the shipment of small OLEDs less than 10 inches was 333.5 million units and sales were $20.5 billion (approximately $24 trillion won). Smartphones, folding phones, and smartwatches are the main application products. Sales exceeded 62% from $12.7 billion over the same period last year.

China’s BOE has completed the expansion of the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) line (TFT) into the B7 production line. In addition, BOE has completed establishing B11 as Apple’s only line and began preparing to offer OLED for the iPhone 13.

The foldable smartphone panel is expected to be 8.9 million units in the second half of the year. Among the OLED applications, the folding phone is expected to grow significantly due to the strong sales of Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Z Flip 3. The OLED phone market is expected to grow to 50 million units by 2025.
