WhatsApp reportedly working on multi-device support with various new improvements

WhatsApp did not support multiple devices before this season, it requires your phone to be unlocked and always connected to the web, even if you are using a web client to send messages.

Although that is no longer necessary, the app can still allow you to send messages from more than one mobile device. If you’ve been hearing the limitations of “partner” devices in the last few months, finally there’s a sign that more real support is coming to WhatsApp.

According to WABetaInfo, the “multi-device 2.0” is now being built, and although you can try it yourself, it’s already built-in beta. With this upgrade, you will be able to unlock the client from a second mobile device without any problems.

As per the screenshot below, WhatsApp downloads your messages to a new device using the same splash screen that is displayed on web and desktop applications.

According to this report, you don’t need to keep your primary phone connected to the web, the app downloads everything directly from its server, keeping messages encrypted as it syncs your inbox.

Unfortunately, WABetaInfo was unable to confirm whether this was designed for Smartphones or whether the company would limit it to working on tablets. While there is no evidence that WhatsApp will not make calls for this update, the company may still want to count its users to keep it limited.
