Google to remove Bitmoji-like “Minus” from Gboard at the end of October

Gboard is a keyboard full of fresh features and a solid typing experience, but like any aspect of Google’s product, it is subject to change over time. As Emoji Kitchen is increasing in popularity, Google has recently confirmed that it will remove its “Minis” stickers from Gboard in the near future.

“Minis” on Gboard was launched in 2018. The feature takes a photo of yourself to create a set of custom stickers for your appearance – similar to Bitmoji, but the stickers are created automatically. The feature is presented with “nice” and “bold” sticker packs with their own artistic styles.

Google was built on the feature later that year with a third-party “Emoji” style pack. At the time since then, however, this feature was left alone as Google focused on improving some parts of its keyboard system.

However, Google is now pulling the plug into “Minis.” A message is currently coming from Gboard regarding “Minis” stickers, which clearly tells users that the feature is on the way out.

The message appears only when you set “Minis” and when using customized stickers. Remarkably, Google seems to have been thinking of taking “Minis” off the Gboard for some time. We first saw a similar message now live in mid-2020.
