Instagram’s new feature will notify users of server outage or technical issues
Following last week’s Facebook outages that interrupted businesses around the world, Instagram has begun exploring a new feature that will inform users about the outages and technology issues. The feature will push notifications in the Activity feed every time Instagram encounters technical issues and another when the company raises the issue.
In a recent blog post, Instagram has announced that it has begun testing the new feature in the US, and plans to continue testing it in the next few months. While it does not currently have plans to expand it to other regions, it may be more widespread in the future.

As you can see in the attached photos, a notification of a technical problem will appear at the top of the task feed. The notification will tell users which Instagram feature is affected by a technical problem, and users will be able to touch it to see the relevant details.
Once Instagram has resolved the issues, the same notification will appear at the top of the activity feed. It is unclear how Instagram will be able to push alerts to users if it faces a major cut like last week.
Besides the outage alerts, Instagram has also released a new tool called Account Status. The tool will allow users to easily see what’s going on with their accounts and the distribution of content in one place. It will let users know if their account is at risk of being disabled, how their content is being distributed, and whether it has been deleted.
If users think Instagram has accidentally deleted their content, the new tool will make it easier for them to allow the speaker to complain using the “Request a Review” button. Instagram plans to add more features to the account status tool in the coming months. We will make sure to let you know as soon as the company shares more information.
