Android 12 restarts apps/games while users change wallpaper, reason Dynamic Color!

Android 12 has plenty of material changes, the largest being Material You. The dynamic color feature of Material You uses Matisse, a new theme engine launched on Android 12 to extract colors from your wallpaper and produce a rich palette of pale colors.

Apps can then apply these colors to their UI in a variety of ways, which is what apps cover the essentials you usually do. However, it has emerged that the introduction of Material You may have an unintended impact when it comes to games.

In Google Issue Tracker, a bug report has been opened that says that when you play Wild Rift or Pokémon Go (Via-XDA), a background image that changes the background will cause the game to crash. Although users usually do not close their game just to change the background image, those who use the default background changer will be affected.

The root of the problem seems to be an unstoppable Android configuration change. In general, games will ignore “configuration changes” on Android, and those “configuration changes” include things like black mode, screen rotation, and regional changes.

Grievously, there doesn’t seem to be many ways around it. Worse, it seems that this may not happen naturally around developers. Google does not offer an opt-out option for developers because it is not possible to opt-out, and this avoidable behavior may be the result of the performance of the Android 12 RROs.

As a result, it means that gamers are not able to change their background images when they play as otherwise, their favorite games may crash.
