Qualcomm plans to change the name of its upcoming flagship SoC earlier this month. Now, with only one day left until the official launch of this new chip, it’s found that the chip will be called the “Snapdragon 8Gx Gen 1“.

This disclosure comes from the Qualcomm staging site and was first spotted on Twitter by @ZaRaczke (via). The new chip will be labeled “Test 123”. It will probably be the placeholder for the chipset until it is officially unveiled on November 30th (today). Meanwhile, the page is named “Testing Icon”.

With this leak, it is safe to assume that all the chips in the lineup will feature the Snapdragon 8Gx naming scheme. It is unclear what the “G” means, but we expect more details during the official launch.

Next Snapdragon chipset recently scored 1,035,020 points on AnTuTu!

Aside from the new naming scheme, the upcoming Qualcomm flagship chip will introduce several new features. The chipset appeared several times in the benchmark database. Last week, the Snapdragon 8Gx Gen 1 scored 1,035,020 points for AnTuTu.

By comparison, MediaTek Dimensity 9000 can only handle 1,007,396. While these figures are undoubtedly much better than most 2020/21 chipsets, it tells us that Qualcomm’s dominance in the mobile chip industry is second to none.

Qualcomm’s current flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 888, can score just 850,000. So it is clear that the upcoming 4nm Snapdragon 8Gx Gen 1 will be a significant upgrade to the chipmaker. This SoC will join the long list of devices in 2022, starting with the Xiaomi 12 in December.

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 lineup also includes the new chipset, although some variants use the Korean manufacturer’s internal Exynos 2200 SoC with an AMD GPU under the hood.
