Here are seven excellent features that Samsung DeX has to offer

Samsung DeX is certainly the best way to get a desktop-like experience from a phone. The platform was first released with the Galaxy S8 series as a way to use your phone as a computer-like interface and has since grown into a smooth, streamlined visual connector that you can use for production and entertainment activities alike.

DeX is now a few years old, and Samsung has built a lot of good features in it. Interested in learning more about it yourself? Here are seven excellent features that Samsung DeX has to offer.

Samsung Dex Features

Connect wherever you want

Before you can immerse yourself in using DeX actually, you will need to connect it to a monitor or display. Thankfully, there are many ways to do this. The easiest way is probably to simply get the HDMI to USB-C cable and connect it to your phone. You don’t need to use the first group cable to do so – usually, users used an Amazon adapter and a standard HDMI cable, and it worked fine.

Alternatively, you can connect wirelessly – just open the Settings app, go to Advanced Features> Samsung DeX, then open DeX, choose to use DeX on TV or monitor, and wait for the system to receive a display. Most internet-connected TVs and monitors should work through this tech. Lastly, you can connect to DeX using a standard PC or Mac using the DeX app.

Use your phone as a trackpad

Don’t have an external keyboard or mouse to use with DeX? No worries! DeX allows you to use your phone as a trackpad, and while not the most accurate experience, it works well on the pinch.

To use the smartphone as a DeX trackpad, connect to the monitor, swipe down the notification shade on your phone, and select the option to use your phone as a trackpad. You can rotate the screen by opening the phone the way you would like with any app, tap with two fingers to right-click and do some of the things you would expect to be able to do in the standard tracking pad.

Customize the DeX wallpaper

You can customize some features of the Samsung DeX as you would on any other desktop – and customizing them doesn’t interfere with your phone when you use it normally.

Most importantly, you can change your DeX wallpaper, and in doing so it will not change the background image of your phone. To do this, while using your DeX, simply right-click (or tap two fingers with the touchpad) on the desktop and select the Wallpaper option. Then you can switch to your favorite wallpaper.

Make sure applications are always accessible

Do you use other apps regularly? If so, you may want to pin them to the taskbar so you can open them no matter what you do. To pin an application in the taskbar, open the application, right-click the icon in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, and then tap the Taskbar Login Shortcut button. You will always see the app icon, so you can always open it.

Learn keyboard shortcuts

As with any desktop app, the best way to do more on DeX is to learn keyboard shortcuts. There are tons of shortcuts in DeX to read, including those related to doing multiple tasks.

Keyboard shortcuts vary depending on how you use DeX – because you can use it on a monitor or your Mac or PC. When you first connect your DeX with the keyboard, you will be allowed to see a list of keyboard shortcuts to get started, which can be helpful.

Use apps designed for DeX

Most apps will work fine without the need for special DeX versions, but if you regularly use certain apps, it might be best to check that they are well-suited for use with DeX.

To see a list of DeX-optimized apps, open your app list and select the link at the top of the Check out apps for Samsung DeX. You will see many top applications listed, including Microsoft Office Office, a series of Adobe applications, and more.

Manage windows

Unfortunately, DeX is not good at helping you manage your windows, and I hope it will get better in the years to come. That said, there are a few things that can help. For example, it is very easy to enter full-screen mode, and there are many ways to do that. You can double-click the top of the window, drag it to the top of the screen, and then release it, or you can tap the full-screen button at the top right of the window.

Alternatively, you will need to stick to the resizing apps manually, which you can do by holding the corner of the app and resizing it. Alternatively, some shortcuts can help with changing app size and cracks, or those shortcuts will vary depending on how you use DeX.
