One UI 4.0 Tip: Color Themes (Material You) with different color schemes

Samsung introduced various tweaks to the user interface and functionality with the release of Galaxy S21’s second One UI 4 Beta. The new version brings some new features and performance improvements too. One of the most important changes is the ability to dynamically apply your theme using the colors drawn in the current wallpaper.

This feature is one of the bases of Google’s Material You redesign on Android 12 on Pixel devices. The Samsung One UI 4.0 beta 2 dynamic theme engine doesn’t seem to behave as well as Google’s Monet on Pixel, but it brings an extra layer of custom to the UI one users have been asking for.

The most notable change to the One UI beta 2 is the new color Themes options. This feature is enabled by long pressing on the home screen and navigating to the ‘Wallpaper’ menu. It is important to note that enabling this feature provides you with different color schemes to choose from. Each of these palettes is drawn to your current wallpaper.

How to choose Colour Themes on Galaxy S21 series

  • Enabled by long pressing on the Home Screen.
  • Navigating to the Wallpaper menu.
  • Enabling features with different color schemes to choose from.
  • Color designs are drawn to your current wallpaper.

Samsung’s theming feature is not as compelling as Google. While quick setting tiles have a theme and text accents in settings, you have no theme thumbnails. Color shading is also very different.

It’s easy to see that Google uses a wide variety of colors to put themes in both quick settings and other tones throughout their app. Samsung’s color theme feature seems to include a few colors into the whole theme, with very little variation in tint or gradients.
