Latest Google Home app update breaks physical volume button adjustment
On January 6, 2021, Google announced that they are making some changes in the setup of speaker groups and assistant devices through the upcoming update. After that, Google has started rolling out new updates for its smart devices and app.
In the latest update for the Google Home app, now you can not change the group volume controller by using a physical button, rather than that you need to adjust each speaker individually.

If you have a variety of Google smart speakers in your home, you might want to be up to date on certain legal rulings by Google, all they want is to set the functionality of your device.
Furthermore, Google revealed that unless your speaker set includes Cast-based devices from other brands like JBL or Lenovo. The device must be using cast firmware version 1.52.2722222 or later.
You can find or check your devices current firmware version, step mentioned below:
- Make sure your mobile or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker
- Open Google Home app
- Select your device
- Tap on settings
- Under Technical information, you will find the last firmware version.
Late Friday, Google Home was updated for Android. Now clicking the rocker will open the volume panel. Here you need to adjust the output of each speaker individually using the virtual slider in the Home app.
