Q4, 2021: Apple x Samsung

Going further with Canalys data, Apple grabbed a 22% share of the worldwide smartphone shipments in Q4 2021. The reason behind Apple’s victory is undoubtedly clear as it launches the new iPhone lineup in the last quarter of every year, which significantly affects the market circumstances during the period.

Samsung, on the other hand, took a market share of 20% alongside the second place compared to the top spot of the previous quarter. It’s worth mentioning that the overall shipments for the quarter grew just 1%, as manufacturers faced issues such as chip shortages.

“Apple is back at the top of the smartphone market after three quarters, driven by a stellar performance from the iPhone 13,” said Canalys Analyst Sanyam Chaurasia.

In addition to Apple and Samsung, Xiaomi maintained its third spot with 12% of total market share, while other Chinese vendors such as OPPO and vivo completed the top five with 9% and 8% shares respectively, as pointed out by Canalys researchers.
