Android users have long wanted an iMessage-like message response feature on their Messages app. Meanwhile, Google has finally released the iMessage reaction feature for Android users through a new Google Messages beta update.

In this article, we’ll see how to use the iMessage reaction feature on Google Messages for Android devices. If you don’t know the reaction feature of iMessage, then let me tell you that it works like the message reaction feature of Instagram.

Message Reaction lets you express your sentiments for a particular message through emojis. This could be a heart, a laugh, a thumbs up, a thumbs down, a question mark, or an exclamation. You can choose one of the emojis that suits your mood or reaction to the message and can use it instead of texting.

Before the change, Google Messages users receiving reactions from iOS devices would see a text description of the accompanying emoji instead of a character. For example, a heart emoji response would come as the text “[user] loved [entire text message]” on Google Messages.

Luckily, this has changed now and Google Messages users can clearly see iMessage responses on their phones. However, the feature is currently released for beta testers but it will soon expand to more users.

  • Click on three dots that appeared in the top right corner.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Click on the Advanced option.
  • Finally, enable Message Reactions.
