Google makes Dynamic Theme mandatory for Android 12 phones, while Samsung has Color Palette!

According to a recent report, Google may ask phone and tablet makers on Android 12 to include a dynamic color system that can be used for content on Pixel phones. Google is implementing a policy that any device launching or upgrading with Android 12 must have Google’s own Monet-like color scheme system to use with the theming.

However, Google’s Monet engine powers Android 12’s dynamic color theme system, which brings five tones across wallpapers for use across the UI and in supported apps (via-AndroidPolice). It is unclear whether Google needs a solution for OEMs to remove colors directly from the wallpaper, or whether users can choose only one main color.

In particular, some OEMs have already implemented their own solutions. Samsung’s One UI 4 already has a dynamic theming engine, but it has a wallpaper-based dynamic theme that is not powered by Monet, but the source says that it uses very similar logic. Many additional companies are committed to bringing theme support to their skins.

According to the bulletin source, Google will confirm this essential on March 14, giving OEMs one month to implement the solution. While this may seem like an odd requirement for GMS eligibility, it is important that Google Apps users and the company look and feel the same across devices.
