PSA: Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra exclusively supports S Pen, don’t try on S22/S22+

Samsung’s S Pen has been an absolute feature of Samsung Galaxy Note series smartphones, and the whole reason behind the Note name is the same. But in 2021 Samsung discontinued the Galaxy Note series and instead got S Pen support in Galaxy S21 Ultra. With the Galaxy S22 Ultra, Samsung is finally making the S Pen back on phones, but will the Galaxy S22 series also support it?

Sad to say, the answer is no. The standard Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus do not support S Pen. You will need to use your fingers or third-party pens that do not require a special digitizer. That digitizer is central to the functionality of the S Pen, so it may not be possible to make it work.

Do the Samsung Galaxy S22 series also support S Pen?

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will only give you S Pen support. The S Pen support depends on the device and the pen, but phones that do not support the S Pen do not support the model, past or present. You can not use the S Pen with the Galaxy S22 or S22 Plus, just as you would not use the S21 or S21 Plus.

However, if you want a foldable one, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 has a special version of the S Pen that works exclusively with it. You can also use S Pen Pro which works on all of Samsung’s pen-supported devices, including tablets and Chromebooks.
