Samsung moves smartphone production lines from Vietnam to Gumi, South Korea

Published

on

Recently, Samsung has decided to relocate its range of smartphone products to its overseas Gumi plant. This is a special step taken by the company after major factories in Vietnam and other countries experienced production shocks after COVID-19.

According to a report from ETNews, Samsung may have a change in smartphone production strategy, which prioritizes efficiency and optimized the production system.

Samsung smartphone production line moves from Vietnam to Gumi!

Late last year, Samsung Electronics moved part of its smartphone production line in Vietnam to its Gumi plant in North Gyeongsang Province. This is the first time the Gumi plant has increased its production capacity since relocating its manufacturing base overseas.

Most of the flagship smartphones in the Galaxy S22 series, which will be officially released on the 25th, are expected to be manufactured at the Gumi plant. With the aim of increasing the volume of sales, Samsung Electronics took its move to stabilize the factory price. It is making every effort to secure the inventory in support of the move.

Samsung Electronics produces 300 million units of smartphones a year. BcNinhand BcNinh, the largest manufacturing base in Vietnam, produces 60% of Samsung’s total smartphones.

The Gumi Plant, the only smartphone manufacturing base in Korea, serves as a manufacturing control tower to implement and pre-test new processes. The plant is particularly responsible for the domestic shipments of flagship products such as foldable smartphones and the Galaxy S, while Samsung’s share of the total production of smartphones has been steadily declining.

Samsung Galaxy S24 September 2024 update

Samsung could not release the Galaxy S26 vanilla, a rumor surfaced. The Galaxy S25 will debut in January 2025 and the S26 series will surely arrive in 2026. Hence, the rumored input should be taken as a grain of salt.

IceUniverse reports that Samsung may adjust the Galaxy S26 series. It is said that the vanilla model could be canceled as it is no longer competitive. The reason is the aggressive marketing approach by Chinese phone makers.

OPPO and vivo are preparing to unveil their small flagship phones. The tipster says these handsets feature better specs than Samsung and Apple. The latter has iOS as an edge over rivals, but Samsung would lag in the future.

The next year’s Galaxy S lineup will debut three models as usual. The rumor regarding the S26 series is like an assumption judging from the product strategy. Meanwhile, Samsung has continued to upgrade the specs of the S Plus models.

Galaxy S26 Rumor

We’ve recently reported a potential CPU performance revolution in the Galaxy S26 series. Qualcomm is expected to ship the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 with up to 5GHz peak frequency. It would be just an outstanding upgrade in the history of the Android world.

Previously, we’ve witnessed rumors of Samsung’s killing the S24 Plus. The company didn’t. Galaxy S is Samsung’s mainstream flagship lineup. Any major change such as cancelling a model isn’t easy and can’t be assumed over a year early.

The South Korean tech giant introduced significant upgrades to previous Galaxy S models. Galaxy S24 is one of the most powerful Android flagships in the market, even though it strongly competes with Apple’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 16.

One UI 8 could release sooner if this Android 16 rumor comes true

One UI 7 Launch

Google and Samsung are yet to release Android 15 and One UI 7 Beta for Pixel and Galaxy devices. Meanwhile, a new rumor suggests Android 16 could come sooner than expected, indicating an early One UI 8 arrival too.

According to AndroidAuthority, Google could release the next Android in Q2 2025. If Android 16 debuts months ahead of the usual timeframe, other vendors could also speed up their device optimization, such as Galaxy’s One UI 8.

In addition to the release, the report also talks about the codename of the next OS. Mishaal believes the Android 16 looks to be codenamed “Baklava.” Android 15 was “vanilla ice cream” or “VIC” and Android 16 is rumored to be codenamed “Baklava.”

  • Baklava is a flaky pastry associated with Armenian, Greek, Iranian, Turkish, and other cuisines.

While Android 15 coming in mid-October 2024, Google released Android 14 on October 4, 2023, Android 13 on August 15, 2022, Android 12 on October 4, 2021, Android 11 on September 8, 2020, and Android 10 on September 3, 2019.

As One UI completely relies on Android, delay and early arrival are also dependent. Android 16 release in the second quarter would be unusual for Google, which usually releases major Android versions in August, September, or October.

It’s crazy to talk about One UI 8 when we don’t have any sign of One UI 7 Beta. Samsung is continuously testing the new version. Meanwhile, the company has missed its usual August release timeframe, and September also ended.

Samsung will hold this year’s Developer Conference on October 3. We expect important announcements regarding the One UI 7 and One UI 6 Watch for Galaxy users. Beta Program is coming or not – would also be confirmed.
