One UI enables Enhanced Data Protection with end-to-end encryption

Samsung Enhanced Data Protection feature

Samsung introduces an Enhanced Data Protection feature for One UI devices. Similar to the Privacy Sharing feature, this new feature also keeps your personal information secure to ensure that you can share data safely and with peace of mind.

The Enhanced Data Protection feature will be available starting with the Galaxy S24 series. This feature enhances the security of your data stored in Samsung Cloud. The availability of this feature depends on your device model and software version.

Enhanced Data Protection Feature

This security feature uses end-to-end encryption (E2EE) to secure your data. It means that your data is encrypted on your device before it’s uploaded to Samsung Cloud, and it stays encrypted while it’s stored and even when it is processed between devices.

Once encrypted, only the user can decrypt and view this data as the feature makes it more secure. It ensures that your information remains private and secure even if a server is hacked or your account details are leaked.

The encrypted data can only be accessed on devices with Enhanced Data Protection enabled, so Samsung also can’t view it.

How to enable it?

To activate the Enhanced Data Protection feature, you just need to follow a few steps. Open the Samsung Cloud app >> tap the More icon in the top right corner >> go to Settings >> select the Enhanced Data Protection option. You can now choose to encrypt either your backup data or your synced data.

You can also turn on this feature by going to the Settings app, then to Security and Privacy, and selecting More Security Settings. From there, choose Enhanced Data Protection.

While enabling this feature, you’ll be asked to generate a recovery code. Write down this code and keep it in a secure place. If your Samsung device gets lost or stolen, this code will help you recover your data.
