Samsung is the world leader in advanced chip manufacturing and mastering self also leading the way for others to prepare their own in-house chips. Over past years many smartphone manufacturing companies like Samsung Apple, Huawei, and Google have launched their own chipset.

Sammobile revealed that Oppo is planning to mass-produce its first smartphone chipset in 2023 and could launch it in 2024. Further reported that it would be an entry-level processor and will be used in an affordable Oppo smartphone.

This SoC could be manufactured using TSMC’s 6nm process, which could be further used to integrate with the modem and a 4nm TSMC fabrication process.

Talking about Oppo’s chipset design the front end and back end design, IP design, memory system architecture, algorithm, supply chain tap-out, and integration has done by the company.

Samsung has been making its own chipsets for more than 10 years, starting from the 7nm chip fabrication to 6nm to 5nm, and now experimenting to produce 3nm and 2nm chips.

Above all this Samsung is now trying to build its own application processor which will be featured in its upcoming Galaxy smartphones. As its higher authorities have announced earlier that they are going “to make an AP unique to Galaxy.”

However Oppo is not new in designing chips, earlier it launched its smartphone chipset named Mariana MariSilicon-X, the previous year. It will be very interesting to see how competitively Oppo is going to perform among other smartphone brands that are trying to compete with tough rivals like Qualcomm and MediaTek.
