Samsung remains on top of the falling global smartphone market in Q1 2022

On April 19, a famous market research agency Canalys released a report on the global smartphone market for the first quarter of 2022. The report shows that global smartphone shipments fell 11% in the first quarter of 2022 due to unfavorable economic conditions and sluggish seasonal demand.

Talking about Samsung, the company led the market with a 24% share, up from 19% in 2021 Q4 as the 2022 portfolio seller revamped its portfolio. Also, Samsung has refreshed its 2022 portfolio, including its flagship Galaxy S22 series, and increased its popular A-Series product to compete aggressively in the mid-to-low-end segment.

Although, the global smartphone market surged in Q1 with a volatile business environment. The market saw an increase in COVID-19 cases due to the Omicron variant. Also, smartphone vendors are facing great uncertainty due to the Russia-Ukraine.

On the other hand, Apple came in second with a solid Q1 due to the growing demand for its iPhone 13 series. Xiaomi ranked third due to the excellent performance of its Redmi Note series. Oppo (including OnePlus) and Vivo were in the top five with 10% and 8% shares respectively.

Although Chinese sellers are still facing a supply crisis at the low end, their global expansion is being hampered by a slowdown in their domestic market.
