Samsung One UI 4.1: Face Recognition, lacks perfection!

Published

Face Recognition

Previously we have discussed Samsungs Face Recognition Technology, and we have told you about the whole process, How to use it? While using the One UI 4.1 for a long time we found that the recognition technology lacks perfection.

When I use to unlock my device with help of one UI 4.1 face recognition technology, it always disappoints me. I do not feel the confidence that my expensive device is capable of unlocking via face recognition.

I am currently using the Samsung Galaxy S21, and even after regularly updating the device software and regularly updating the Face Recognition application, the so-called feature is unable to provide the appropriate response.

Expectations from One UI 5

Samsung needs to work on the synchronization of the software and its sensor, I have checked it thoroughly, it even unlocks your device in your absence. I did this experiment with a recent hard copy of my passport size photo.

As soon as I placed the photo in front of the camera sensor, it unlocked my device. At that time I was laughing at myself and the security that Samsung has provided us.

It ditches all the safety norms and keeps them aside. This is a truly pathetic experience. Samsung should try to improve the technology in the upcoming One UI 5, and use such improved sensors that could support the artificial intelligence and recognition technology so that we can use them to the fullest.

Its time for Samsung to come into action and clear all these faults, by taking a proper public review. Only God knows what those beta programs and SDKs are cooking till now. Hope they will be preparing something good with One UI 5.

Precautions for using face recognition

Before using face recognition pray for yourself, and keep the precautions in mind.

  • Your device could be unlocked by someone or something that looks like your image.
  • Face recognition is less secure than Pattern, PIN, or Password.
  • Do not wear a hat, wear glasses, a mask, or heavy makeup.
  • Ensure that you are in the well-illuminated area, and make sure your camera lens is clean.
  • Last but not the least, ensure that your image is not blurry.

Samsung has set its own benchmarks and regularly improved its technology a lot. Being a Samsung lover, I definitely want the company to resolve ongoing issues with face recognition and improve them in the upcoming One UI 5. If any one of you facing the same issue, you can share it with us in the comments below.

Samsung and Google’s close partnership doesn’t need any elaboration. The friendship isn’t limited to services, as both firms work across an ecosystem. However, it doesn’t stop Samsung from partnering with OpenAI in favor of better service.

As the AI phone market is growing rapidly, OpenAI may innovate further. Google doesn’t lag, but there’s still room for a potential alliance. Apple Intelligence-like features might be deployed on Galaxy phones after Samsung’s partnership.
