Samsung didn’t bring a major user interface overhaul with the Android 12-based One UI 4 iteration, therefore, consumers are eyeing the One UI 5.0, based on Android 13. While Google is still developing its upcoming mobile platform, Samsung is likely to offer the first Beta by the end of next month.

The South Korean tech giant introduced various new features with the One UI 4.1 that is inspired by Google’s Android 12 operating system such as Dynamic Theming. Meanwhile, we don’t know anything about the One UI 5.0 features that Samsung will bring with Android 13, but, we can imagine, at least.

Color Palette – Your Galaxy Your Way

Your Galaxy Your Ways is the tagline of Samsung’s One UI software which mean to provide users the ability to customize their device as per their own needs and creativity. Meanwhile, OPPO swiftly beats Samsung when it comes to the most engaging Material You Color Picker.

Samsung One UI 4 brings five different color palettes that are being created by the wallpaper of the homescreen. Meanwhile, the ColorOS 12 also brings the ability to pick custom colors in addition to the Android 12’s self-generated color palettes.

Similar to the color picker tool of Photoshop, you can drag the four dots over the background to individually pick colors as well as you can also set your own color through the color wheel. If a Chinese vendor can do it even on Android 12, why we don’t wish for it with the One UI 5.0.

App Drawer with vertical scrolling

For many years, Samsung consumers demanded to bring the vertical scrolling feature for the App Drawer offered by the One UI Home. The stock App Drawer has no option to turn the scrolling functionality from Horizontal (paginated) to Vertical.

In case a Vertical scrolling app drawer is a must, you can force it using the Good Lock’s Home Up module, however, there’s a catch that the Good Lock is not available for all Galaxy devices and in all regions globally. As the Vertically scrolling app drawer is useful for most and makes the phone handy, we expect its arrival with One UI 5.0.

Customizable Dark Mode

Chinese OEMs are one step ahead of Samsung in providing software features on the Android 12 operating system. The Android 12-based ColorOS 12, OxygenOS 12, and Realme UI 3.0 have a customizable Dark Mode feature that allows users to choose the intensity.

The above-mentioned Android skins bring three settings for dark mode customization including Enhanced, Medium, and Gentle. When selected, the Enhanced settings apply fully dark mode, while the Medium changes the UI to dark grey and the Gentle applies a light grey hue, similar to Eye Comfort Shield.

System-wide themed app icons

Android 12 was a big deal, while Android 13 has nothing to amaze consumers, in terms of new features. However, Google is impressively making the Android 12’s new features even more useful with the new OS. Reports revealed that Google is asking developers to use monochromatic app icons when they submit app updates.

With this, third-party apps will also be themed the same as Google and UI’s stock apps taking advantage of the Material You theming engine. In Android 12, Dynamic Theming only applies to Google and Samsung apps, however, it would change in near future with the One UI 5.

Improved animation speeds

With each generation of One UI, Samsung brings improvements to the animation speeds, accordingly, we don’t need to worry about it as the company will surely enhance the animations in the next One UI 5 version. The same was reported earlier that the devs are working to improve the animation speeds.

Samsung has a lot of smartphones with 90Hz and 120Hz displays, hence, the experience will be boosted impressively following the software optimization and animation speed improvements. At the same time, budget phones that lack refresh rate customization will also gain smoother scrolling ability.

One UI 5 coming later this year

It’s true, that Samsung will launch the Android 13-based One UI 5 software skin later this year, followed by its improved variant One UI 5.1 in early next year. Meanwhile, you’ll be able to test the upcoming skin through One UI Beta program in select regions.

This year, Samsung will deliver the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 Beta/Stable update, first, to the Galaxy S22 series devices. Later on, the company will expand this new OS to more eligible Galaxy devices including the Galaxy S21, Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, S20, and Note 20.
