Story published on Sep 29, last updated on Sep 30…

Samsung is still testing the One UI 5.0 Beta on the Galaxy S22 series devices, and Verizon just refreshed its software support page, which suggests the Stable One UI 5.0 update, based on Android 13 is now available to download for Verizon’s carrier-locked devices, but how?

Verizon support page for the Galaxy S22 series clearly mentions that the devices are getting a Stable One UI 5.0 update with Android 13 operating system. Not that all, but the network provider has also disclosed all the new features that are included in the latest OTA update for the S22 series.

Meanwhile, there are two things to discuss:

  1. Build version
  2. Typo or technical error

1. Build Version

Samsung’s Beta builds can be identified via the fourth last alphabet of the Galaxy phone’s PDA version number. If the device is running a Beta build, the fourth last alphabet is “Z” and Stable is counted as A, B, C and so on, which changes per major One UI upgrade.

2. Typo or technical error

With the latest Galaxy S22 series upgrade, the changelog and support page suggests that it is Android 13-based One UI 5.0 OTA, but the fourth last digit of the firmware remains unchanged to “A.” It could be a typo in the version number or a technical error, if Verizon hasn’t really released One UI 5.0.

Consumers Feedback

Unlocked Galaxy S22 series smartphones, on the other hand, just started to get the October 2022 Android security update in the United States. At the same time, Verizon users reported on the Reddit thread that they’ve also received the update but got just a security patch after installation.

Conclusion:

As per the users’ confirmation and the current stage of One UI 5.0 development, we can assume that Verizon mistakenly mentioned the Android 13 update information on its support page. Meanwhile, it’s now almost confirmed that the Stable One UI 5.0 update rollout preparation is done by Verizon.

Update – September 30

Verizon has now refreshed its software update page for the Galaxy S22 series smartphones. Yesterday, it mentioned Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update for the handsets alongside the October 2022 security patch. The version number is still the same yes yesterday, while carrier replaced the One UI 5.0 changelog with regular patch.
