The company plans this because blood donations have decreased due to COVID-19 in the winter and surgeries have been canceled due to a lack of blood at medical sites.

So in January 2022, executives from Samsung-related companies voluntarily donated 10% of the special incentive amount received in December last year for the construction of a new blood donation buses to solve the shortage problem.

Currently, the Red Cross operates 93 blood donation buses at 15 blood centers in Korea and about 10 units need to be replaced every year due to aging, that’s becoming a factor preventing progress. Blood Donation vehicles play a vital role in the supply and demand of blood,  accounting for 33% of total blood donations.

Furthermore, the experience of donating blood in the blood donation bus acts as an intermediary to provide regular blood donation services through the “House of Blood Donation”.

Samsung’s donation is expected to improve low operating rates due to malfunction, etc., and will contribute to improving the supply and demand for blood donations this winter.
